… of results.

This post is a quick compilation of some especially powerful quotes which have come across my line of sight in recent weeks.

Study them, think about what they mean in depth, and apply. Knowledge learned and not acted upon isn’t a full equation.

During a persons’ lifetime, there are only a couple of opportunities that come your way. If you possess the courage and self confidence to grasp them, they can change your life.

– Lou Holtz

… Our actions are directly connected to our thoughts … you must begin at the level of your thoughts. Seek to isolate the thoughts that lead to the wrong way of speaking.

– Stuart Scott

Look within. Within is the foundation of good, and it will ever bubble up, if thou wilt ever dig.

– Marcus Aurelius

Iron rusts from disuse; water loses its purity from stagnation… even so does inaction sap the vigor of the mind.

– Leonardo da Vinci

When you walk to the edge of all the light you have and take that first step into the darkness of the unknown, you must believe that one of two things will happen: There will be something solid for you to stand upon, or, you will be taught how to fly.

Praise - human relations skill box - Praise

Praise is powerful food for the human soul.

Why don’t we capture the vibrancy of this truth in our dealings with others far more often?

Consider these words from Mr. Charles Fillmore:

Words of praise, gratitude, or thanksgiving expand, set free, and in every way radiate energy … You can praise a weak body into strength, a fearful heart into peace and trust; shattered nerves into poise and power; a failing business into prosperity and success; want and insufficiency into support and support.

Wow. Tell me that doesn’t hit home with you!  Then again, perhaps it doesn’t … yet. Why could that be?  Our common culture disconnects our heart and soul from our mind and actions, let alone dampens our spirit and desire to be more than average.

Fillmore went on to say:

The whole of creation responds to praise and is glad. Animal trainers pet and reward their charges with delicacies for acts of obedience; children glow with joy and gladness when they are praised. Even vegetation grows better for those who love it.

Two books that stand out on this theme that I highly recommend reading and applying their truth nuggets are here and here.

Make it a great day, evening, or week, wherever you happen to be reading this post. Thank you for investing time in doing so & God Bless.

p A i L s = High level significance

Whom amongst you would have expected that a pail would signify anything but:

.. Something used at the beach.

… A tool used to haul water from a well.

…. or, a plastic carrier for kids to use for Halloween candy.

Not any longer … a pail(s) has far more significance here in 2014. Why, one may ask?

It is now a visual metaphor for significance in your life. I’d heard a talk a few months ago re: this concept, and it really hit a home run; it was profoundly impactful for someone who had spent so many years just surviving and passing the time – I was doing “pretty well”, or was I?

( When you spend many hours of the week in non growth activities like watching TV & shopping on credit, or excessive time on social media sites, is that really doing well?  )

This post will just scratch the surface of this new wisdom that I’m blessed to pay forward – there’s a strong likelihood that there will be a future post with more detail; for certain, there will be a book review.

PAiLs stands for :

Preparatory experiences [ potential ]

+ future focused

Actualization

+ present day/actions, activities, habits

in/to

Legacy

+ what you plan to leave behind ( “rescued into the past.” )

(with/notwithstanding)  Spillage

+ time lost by design/intentional, or un-intentionally that didn’t get you closer to your aspirations.

Profound, yes?

Think about it. In depth. Don’t react, nor respond. Definitely ponder how it may change your thinking on each of those 86,400 seconds that you are granted every time you start anew each day.

Strongly recommend taking a moment to review & check out the same talk ( & now, also a book) that served as the inspiration for the core of this post. You will not regret doing so for even one minute.

Feedback is always welcomed & encouraged. Create a great week ahead!

Recently, I had the blessing to listen to an audio recording which was really eye opening – rest assured that I’d not have had the opportunity to learn at this level without having made the decision to become better in all areas of life.

The crux of the recording = get your thinking right first; it is an inside-out battle, as better thoughts flow outward to the outside once you conquer limiting beliefs, cynicism, negativity, doubt, fears of man, and excusitis on the inside.

Here are the five laws that were spotlighted, culled from my notes & some personal reflection after hearing the talk numerous times over the past month.

One: Law of ‘Cause & Effect’

The most fundamental of the five; in fact, without it, is a foundation of Western Civilization as we know it today, and as it was birthed back in antiquity during the ascendency of the Greeks. The world is guided by law, and not by chance, as Aristotle taught to his students.

Choices we’ve made in the past ( cause ) are definitely impacting our present ( effect ). We most certainly reap what we have sowed.

Study the works of Viktor Frankl & Seligman, the latter of the ‘explanatory style‘, to better grasp this law at a far deeper level.

Two: Law of Belief

A person most always acts consistently with his/her beliefs.

It doesn’t work if one changes their actions or habits without first changing the beliefs that frame their thinking.

Belief, let alone faith, is very powerful – one of the all time best books to read is ‘The Magic of Thinking Big‘.

Three: Law of Expectations

Dr. Robert Rosenthal’s ‘Pygmalion in the Classroom‘ illustrates this law to a ‘T’.

What you get in life is what you expect. This law and the preceding law work hand in hand. Build your belief first, and your expectations can and will be molded to be far more useful as you proceed on your success journey.

A simple illustration ( can find numerous graphics via a basic web search ) is to have dreams and a sweeping vision that tower above your obstacles and present reality. If you can frame your expectations for the future in the right thinking context, you’ll be further down the road than the majority of people you encounter.

Four: Law of Attraction

Simply stated, ‘You attract what you are.’

If you’ve already changed your thinking, mindset, beliefs, and expectations, it’s almost a given that you’ll be attracting different people to you.

John C. Maxwell, in his magnum opus, ‘The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership‘, focused on this through what he called the “Law of Magnetism”.

Five: Law of Correspondence

Your outer self corresponds to your innermost self; who you are externally, facing the world, is a direct correlation to what you are internally.

This can be your greatest responsibility and assignment; how will you become a better ‘you’ ? Re-review the above four laws: notice how they all are inter-related?

In the end, you want to become the mental equivalent of what you want to be on the outside. Change your inputs ( information is everything ), focus on having a better mindset and mode of thinking, and you’ll see the results flow downstream.

Infographic - Productivity

Studying this infographic on productivity was very valuable to me & I trust that it’ll add value to your day. One place to start, at the first ‘gate’ to managing your time:  Never say “I don’t have time”, and also cut back (or refrain entirely) from saying “I’m busy”.

Both of these tend to become rationalizations, complaints, whining, excuses, or even ‘rational lies’.

When you understand, at the root, that you have the exact same twenty-four hour day as the men & women of the past who did the greatest things – such as Washington, Jefferson, Montesquieu, Jesus Christ, Roger Bannister, Sam Walton, or any other of the innumerable folks whose names are burned into monuments, commendations, and other memorable means — you will then be able to reframe your day into one that is all about your priorities, and not urgencies nor obligations.

May your day be the best it can be. Thank you for stopping by & as always, comments and shares are deeply appreciated & welcome.

By the hour, by the task, by the relationship, or by ROI

I’ve had the privilege to expand my formerly fixed pie mindset into that of a lifelong student with an ever growing pie mindset due to being on the ‘path less traveled’ which I’ve been walking down these past 3+ years.

In this time, I’ve read north of 100 books, listened to somewhere between 500 and 1,000 audio recordings, watched over 50 DVDs, read hundreds of blog posts, and been to between 100 and 200 different events where I am surrounded by creators/builders/eagles/climbers. All of these, summed up, has completely been transformational. Not an overstatement in the least!

As part of the above, one particular book, amongst many, serves as the inspiration/foundation stone for this post – that being ‘Cashflow Quadrant’. It was one of the first dozen books I read when I discovered what true education really was ( = liber/liberty/how to think ), and I constantly recommend it in the present, and will do so into the indefinite future:  It is THAT crucial — a must read.  In fact, I believe it should be required reading in all high schools, regardless of if public, charter, private, Christian, or one of the many home school curriculums.

Taking a high level view of the acres of material in this book leads back to the title of this post. There are four/4 quadrants —  each of them will appeal to people based on their core values, their personality traits/temperaments, and their willingness to be a student (read: humble, honeable, hungry).  Each of these can also be attached to one of the short descriptors;  let’s unpack them one by one, then will close off this post with a summation.

By the Hour

E > Someone who ‘lands’, chooses, or is shuttled here through the ‘system’ and/or programming most usually thinks in chunks — hour(s). Extended further out: days, weeks, with a mindset of “hump day”, or Friday is more important than any other day of the week. This is due to an ingrained mindset where he/she measures things in such time increments which are short term in focus and perhaps also in vision.  Often, someone in this quadrant will say he/she “has no time”, or is “very busy”. Chalk this up to a priorities/urgencies root issue, and the age old difficulty in being unable to do anything about the time v. money 1:1 exchange.

By the Task

S > Here is a quadrant where one also tends to be shuttled or programmed to put up stakes, although there is a definitive difference b/w it & its cousin, ‘E’. A person(s) here now thinks more along the lines of – how much can I earn (income) for task “X”, “Y” ?  Example is the trading of time for an appointment which requires the other party to pay ( e.g., Doctors, dentists, accountants, certain types of coaches/counselors, stylists, consultants, lawyers ). So, to extend, it is in the best interests of the person to squeeze as many clients-customers into a given time period as possible. The outlook here can usually be longer than a day or a week, although a person here can oft-times employ others, so he/she may also be marking off in his/her head the time between ‘now’ & when payroll is due.

We’ve now traversed the metaphorical wall/chasm between sides of the squared quad. What is the difference between them, one who has yet to read this landmark book may inquire?  Quite straightforward:  One’s incoming information, and subsequent thinking (and actions/application of the former two). Another way to say it:  You are no longer depend”E”nt nor are you a member of independent”S” Inc. (so to say)

By the Relationship

B >  The least understood corner real estate, yet within lies the most profound answers to many of life’s perplexing issues/questions. Such as?  :  Why can’t I ever seem to get ahead? — Why don’t I think I have enough time in the day to do everything I must get done? ( yet, the day is just as long as it was millennia ago ) — Why is there more week/month than what is in my paycheck ( net income ) ?  Just who are the folks who own (not manage!) those ‘chains’ = franchises that I spend all of my waking time or currency in?

When you quite likely have made your way into this quadrant, since a very small number will be born here, you will find that your thinking requires a reboot. And, furthermore, that much of what you learned before quite likely will need to be unlearned over time. To “B”, you are no longer the magic elixir. You’ve instead discovered interdependent life — its all about Resolution 11: Systems (Holism) & working in concert with a proven, duplicatable system. This system often takes the form of a recurring inflow of life changing information or, in some cases, it is a reference manual/guide/book that you can use over + over + over again to get the same result.

How does relationship(s) tie in?  This way:  Since you are interdependent, you are interlinked in many cases with others in common purpose. The others will either ensure your financial security through their prosperity; and/or they will be your extended term clients/customers as you have earned their unshakeable trust and loyalty; and/or, lastly, you are seeking to grow your tribe and expand your network, so you must know people skills and sharpen the human relations art & science abilities that are not nearly as well taught as an “E” or an “S”‘er. Folks here also have a strong understanding of financial fitness & are coming to the realization that you don’t retire — unless the word is re-defined to mean that you are retiring from your obligations.

This leads to the final corner >

By ROI

I > This is rarified “air”, as the % of those occupying the ground in this bottom right real estate are most always those who spent a good deal of time as a “B”, and they’ve earned their stripes and have become truly free:  In both time and in money. So, they can now put their money on the line in great big chunks, and become real investors. No, if you are “investing” in a corporate-industrial age retirement vehicle such as a 401(k) nor an industrial age one like a defined benefit pension plan.

In those two latter examples, you are not spending money, however, you have not leveraged money to get an ROI on money. The leverage here is purely monetary as opposed to a system from its cousin to the north, the ‘B’. Instead, this is building or creating of an asset(s) that kicks off cash flow. The book describes the levels of investors far better than I could attempt to dissect, so dear readers, please be sure to read, or re-read, this seminal book, then pay it forward to your friends, family, and especially, the younger generations.

In this quadrant, to cap it off – you are receiving so much inflow of currency from your dependent ‘E’ & independent ‘S’ neighbors across the wall, that your well being is set. You are a living breathing example of the maxim of financial fitness that its NOT where the $ starts, but rather, where it ends up that COUNTS.

In wrapping up, please be willing to always change. It is hard, however, beating one’s head against cement and expecting cement to crumble!  If you have those questions above, or simply are a student and wish to gain wisdom and knowledge to then turn around to apply & then pay forward to another, you have found (A) one of the best books ever written, and (B) a post here in the blogosphere which has attempted to explain it all from a slightly different perspective than others likely have already. ( since this book has sold so many copies, I know there are tons of links online talking about it! )

Be the best you can be. Live. Learn. Grow, And may you find & earn your dreams.

Offense, Defense, & 'Playing' Field ... for Finances / Economics

Economics. Finances. Government budgets. Money. Investing. Spending. Bills.

What emotion(s), thought(s), or image(s) spring to mind when you heard these words?

Fear?

Confusion?

Uncertainty?

Confidence?

I hope that you can answer in a very positive way, however, with the way our culture and society have been so heavily commercialized, flooded with PR/marketing/advertising, and political mumbo-jumbo ( to put it mildly ), I would suspect that the emotion, thoughts, or otherwise would veer rather strongly to the negative, or perhaps just indifference.

Then, let’s introduce an equation which is far from original, yet can help dispel many many myths, confusion, and other maladies which are preventing the mass of our great republic from being able to earn their freedom  – financially ( from being a slave to debt & time ), spiritually ( to be able to donate freely to charities and church/faith organizations, if desired ), socially ( to be able to share wealth with those less fortunate, inc. struggling families , single parents, et al. ), and personally ( becoming educated and empowered, instead of programmed & trained to borrow, spend, and not invest in ‘You, Inc.’

INFORMATION  ~~~>  THINKING ~~~> ACTIONS/HABITS ~~~> RESULTS

May I take the liberty to recommend digging into some world class, gold medal information which is a compilation of nearly two decades of wisdom gained, education earned, and lessons learned through the vehicle of PDCA? (plan/do/check/adjust-act)?

Please watch this short vid clip

& click through the various options (workbook, forms, full package/set)

It would be a privilege to share with anyone how much this information has changed my economic & financial thinking from the inside-out. I will never look at money, budgets, investment, or spending/expense the same again. For the better. Way better. Immeasureably better.

Have a terrific evening & enjoy every minute of your day. Its a blessing to be alive & well!

Making a difference starts with ...

… better quality information.

Contention of the day:   Information changes lives.

Better yet to sharpen that & say:   World class information changes lives, so long as one has the courage to grow, to be honeable, and humble enough to confront his/her thinking head-on.

Personal testimonial. This is what I did starting just about three years ago. The information I had in my life up to that point had produced the results that I had, which, far from bad, were just … mediocre; additionally, my happiness was nearer to low tide than to flood tide level.

So, thanks to finding a mentor, associating positively with those who cared about my happiness and wanted to build a long lasting trusted friendship/relationship with me, things started to change, step by step:  days, then weeks, months, and now, into the years.

Now, rather than spending so much time worrying about things due to a bad attitude (especially on Mondays; now, all 7 days are equal in how much I look forward to them!), and a focus on self, rather than service, I live a far richer, blessed, and fruitful life in all areas measured through the 8 F’s and the 13 resolutions. I used to make ‘resolutions’ ( not really: they were ‘preferences’ and not decisions), and not live up to them; I used to spend a lot of valuable time sleeping in, or watching television, or reading books that just made me angry about current events, but offered no depth based solutions to fix things. Now, each of these time wasters and productivity drainers have been replaced by far more effectives uses of time, which allow me to make a difference and build a legacy; things such as:

Reading world class books – have built up a library and always am happy to recommend titles ( see my second blog for the write ups ) and also loan out books to those who are hungry to change

Listen to audio recordings which make me think, which challenge me to grow more, and which contain voices of those whose results I desire to have.

Watch various webinars, DVDs, and vid clips (You Tube) that contain information which leads me to be able to write up quotes to help stretch my thinking, push me out of my familiar zone, and bless others by being part of the 20% of society which “vibrates” to a positive frequency.

Association with other climbers, encouragers, and dreamers who have put serving others through servant, replacement driven leadership far ahead of their personal affluence, whims, pleasure, comfort, and entertainment.

And, am able to describe to others just how I did it and am able to pay it forward – Level 3 motivation is the capstone of a life well lived. Being a creator and part of a huge sea change in the West (esp America) which stresses putting the entrepreneurial/freedom values like tenacity, creativity, long term vision, and numerous others in one’s day to day lives.

Unquestionably, it is those who challenge their own thinking through the doorway of better information that can lead the way to an even brighter tomorrow. America’s best days are ahead, and so are the West’s, so long as we recognize the golden value of time far, far ahead of the silver value of money, and as we see the actions and habits we perform & take blaze a new pathway to far better results which will make a difference in our life, our immediate families, friends, community, and even, the nations in which we live.

May your days be filled with gratitude & all the best!

Johari Window & LIFE Coaching - Define, Learn, Do -

The Johari Window is a very insightful & enlightening look into the mind, will, & heart of a person, is it not?

For me, its elegant simplicity is what stands out – one shouldn’t have to have certifications or degrees to be able to understand, learn from, and then apply needed changes into his/her/their lives using a model such as this.

Personal growth & change is something that all of us should embrace warmly, for we are imperfect people swimming daily in a world awash with data, which is not always information; what makes it through the filters to be considered information is far from always quality (wheat) info; and even if it is world class/gold medal “wheat”, it is not always communication.

I am most interested in the upper right quadrant/box for this post — since I’d break down Life (or Christian Life/Business) Coaching to a base definition of helping someone identify his/her blind spot(s), and then going forward with them, in a ‘walk a mile, see a mile‘ approach, to help them address it/them, which, over an adult time frame, will then lead to him/her living a more significant/quality life.

Blind spots are nothing that cannot be healed, addressed, or improved; what helps a Life Coach such as me to address the  is to educate the person(s) on the Define, Learn, Do model of personal growth/change.

Define => What do you want out of life?  What’s your why? Or, put even better, how can I help you live the life you’ve always wanted?

Learn => Let’s connect you with world class information: books, audio (CD, mp3’s), DVDs, You Tube vid clips, & streaming live, or in person events to help you read, listen, & positively associate with those who share your why & wants/needs. Learn from the information & them along the way. Realize that the power of compounding & a long term vision are imperative in this step.

Do => As you learn something from the association & the ‘be the example’ mentor / LIFE coach, do what he/she/they are doing or have done. They’ve blazed the trail through the forest, and given you the map to get you from your “Point A” (present) to your desired “Point Z” (future), so simply follow it and be a humble, hungry, and open minded student.

Along the way, there will likely be course corrections, stumbles, mistakes, & perhaps even some back tracking to get back on the map’s trail. Do not ever quit!  Quitting is the polar opposite of success; failure is but a teachable moment(s) and never defines you as a person. After all, your blind spot(s) quite likely did not develop in your upper right quadrant in a single day, so like stated above, have an adult time frame ( think: it takes 9 months for a new life to be born, and roughly 4 years to get a professional track under-grad degree ) & stick to the game plan!

Over the past 2+ years of my own journey, which led to wrapping a business around my purpose ( which is to serve 10,000 people over 10 years by being a messenger & a conduit to top quality/ ‘wheat’  information & being a glass cleaner/candle to light a path & serve first, always ), I’ve run into blind spots of my own, and being a student always attracts teachers who want to coach or mentor others. I’ve had this bountiful blessing in this time, and I consider it a privilege and honour to pay it forward to as many as I can.

The Johari Window, combined with Define-Learn-Do, and applied through tuning out information that is not adding value (‘noise’/’chaff’, such as much of what the mass media offers up on a daily basis) and replacing the latter with a focus on your core senses ( reading=eyes; listening=ears; association=touch) will calibrate the below equation’s inputs, and get you to “Point Z”.

INFORMATION -> THINKING -> HABITS / ACTIONS / RESPONSES -> RESULTS

Have the best day of your life ahead & be of great cheer!
